The Minority group in Ghana\u2019s Parliament is calling for help from the Civil Society Community in the country as well as well-meaning Ghanaians to join them in policing President Akufo Addo\u2019s Government against excessive borrowing.<\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 after the adjournment of an emergency recall of Parliament from recess, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson sounded helpless in their fight so far.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are calling on the people of Ghana to hold this government accountable. The Opposition all this time, we have been doing what we can with the numbers that was given to us by the electorates. But often times the impression is created as if it is only the opposition should hold the government accountable.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe call on Civil Society and well-meaning Ghanaians to join us in opposing this government vehemently because this is a Government that will never learn. They are comfortable with the numbers that they have. They are more than us by one or two and often times they use these numbers to push their business through.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday they are successful because they are more than us. On a normal day they are more than us by one and you only need a simple majority to carry this business through. But clearly, the loan stinks. These are loans that should not be allowed to go through in the first place,\u201d the Minority Leader indicated.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is important for me to say that at the time the country is in debt distress, it is very wrong for the Government to still consider and have the courage to add to our public debt. Only today Parliament approved 750 million loan agreements.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe NDC Minority opposed vehemently, but the NPP Majority thought it is the right time to ambush the NDC and to bring this loan for approval. Because this is coming at a time when the NDC Members of Parliament are going through internal elections. Our primaries.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cObviously, most of us are contesting heavily. As a result, you don\u2019t expect everyone to be here and they thought it is the best time.\u201d
