The Member of Parliament for Sehwi Akontombra, Hon. Pius Kwame Nkuah, has welcomed assurances by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Jinapor, to support the electrification of underserved communities in his constituency under the SHEP-4 Rural Electrification Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows a parliamentary question posed by the MP, seeking clarity on when the communities of Bowomoden, Tawiakrom, Congo, Obengkrom, Kusikrom, Okakrom, and Kroboline in the Akontombra District would be connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his response, the Minister confirmed that the listed communities are included in a cost-sharing arrangement between the Ministry and the MP. He noted that the Ministry would release the remaining items to Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for completion of the project, provided the MP procures the outstanding materials and covers the cost of installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hon. Nkuah reaffirmed his commitment to bridging the infrastructure gap between urban centres and rural communities, stating that access to electricity is a vital component of local development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy target is about the school children,\u201d the MP said. \u201cIn these communities where there are no lights, they find it difficult to study at night. I want to bridge that gap between those who are staying within the bigger communities in the Akontombra District and those in the rural communities, especially in the cottages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also noted that electrification would enhance the functionality of local schools and Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, and help attract professionals such as teachers and health workers to the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSome of the schools will benefit from computer installations, and teachers from urban areas find it challenging to stay in communities without electricity,\u201d he said. \u201cHealth compounds also require power to function safely at night. This initiative will be a major boost to local development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
