Parliament, July 9, 2025 \u2013<\/em> The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has announced the deployment of a specialized police team to Yeji and surrounding communities in response to persistent highway robberies along the Ejura-Yeji corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to an urgent question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, the Minister disclosed that the Ministry has taken concrete steps to strengthen security and curb armed robbery attacks in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Currently, there is only one barrier and a checkpoint on the Ejura-Yeji stretch. The Command plans to establish additional sub-checkpoints at Ejura Nkwanta and Korontihene junction, to be reinforced by a dedicated patrol team along the road,” Hon. Muntaka stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further revealed that 50 specially trained police officers have been deployed to the Yeji-Atebubu stretch, along with a new pickup vehicle to support their operations. However, the Minister highlighted logistical challenges, citing the need for additional manpower and vehicles to sustain the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ParliamentNews360.com<\/em>, Hon. Emmanuel Boam expressed satisfaction with the Minister\u2019s proactive response, describing it as a significant step towards addressing a menace that has plagued the community for over two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs I speak to you, the whole constituency is planning a demonstration tagged \u2018Who Is Next?\u2019\u2014a reflection of the deep-seated fear and frustration among the people,\u201d he said. \u201cA young man, only 38 years old and full of life, was recently gunned down on his return from the market. The robbers didn\u2019t even ask questions before shooting. This is how devastating the issue has become.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MP emphasized that the impact of the attacks goes beyond lives lost, also threatening economic activity and scaring away potential investors. \u201cOur concern is livelihoods. No businessman will risk resources in Yeji if they cannot travel safely. The gains of our once-thriving market are gradually being eroded,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He commended the Minister\u2019s collaborative approach, noting that both the Ministries of Interior and Defence are working together to deploy a joint security task force. \u201cWe have already started arrangements for accommodation for the officers. This is not just talk\u2014it\u2019s action. The Minister has handled this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves, and for that, I\u2019m truly grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renewed focus on security along the Ejura-Yeji highway is expected to bolster confidence among residents and travelers, and potentially restore economic vibrancy to the affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
