The Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has downplayed the macroeconomic gains being touted by the John Dramani Mahama administration, arguing that the government\u2019s claims do not reflect the lived realities of Ghanaians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Amin Adam, a former Finance Minister, criticised what he described as the government\u2019s overreliance on headline economic indicators such as inflation and exchange rate stability, insisting that those figures mask deeper structural challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe figures they are bragging about \u2014 inflation is this; the exchange rate is that \u2014 behind these numbers, the economy is suffering,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the cocoa sector has already exposed what he believes to be weaknesses in the administration\u2019s economic management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe cocoa sector has just exposed them,\u201d he repeated, suggesting that developments within the sector contradict the narrative of economic recovery being projected by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concerns Over Maize and Local Farmers<\/strong>
Dr. Amin Adam further cited developments in the maize sector as evidence of what he termed policy failures. Drawing from observations in his constituency, he said local farmers are struggling to sell their produce due to competition from imported maize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am just coming from my constituency. There are bags of maize piled up that farmers are unable to sell because people prefer imported maize over locally produced maize,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He warned that such trends undermine the efforts of farmers who, according to him, are working hard to sustain the economy and ensure food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur farmers are putting in significant effort to save our economy, to save our country, to feed our country. This government is recklessly undermining all these efforts,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warning to Government<\/strong>
The Karaga MP cautioned that the perceived disconnect between official macroeconomic data and grassroots economic realities would soon become evident to the broader population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt won\u2019t be long before Ghanaians see the reality of this government,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
