{"id":766,"date":"2021-06-12T15:09:24","date_gmt":"2021-06-12T15:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parliamentnews360.com\/?p=766"},"modified":"2021-06-12T15:17:54","modified_gmt":"2021-06-12T15:17:54","slug":"greening-ghana-project-is-an-opportunity-to-recover-vegetation-loss-speaker-bagbin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parliamentnews360.com\/index.php\/greening-ghana-project-is-an-opportunity-to-recover-vegetation-loss-speaker-bagbin\/","title":{"rendered":"Greening Ghana Project is an Opportunity to Recover Vegetation Loss &#8211; Speaker Bagbin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Speaker of the Eight Parliament of Ghana, Alban Sumana Bagbin has observed that the Greening Ghana Project, is a special opportunity for the people of Ghana to amend their ways in handling environmental issues in order to recover the loss of its vegetation cover overtime.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The national tree planting exercise currently ongoing across the length and breadth of the country, has received a lot of support from individuals, institutions, religious bodies and traditional authorities among others.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the people\u2019s destructive practices over the years have not only degraded the natural environment, but have also virtually depleted the country\u2019s rich forest cover and have exposed it to the threats of desertification, droughts, irregular patterns of rainfall and all its attendant challenges including food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Staff Durbar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Speaker made the observation at a staff durbar held at the forecourt of the Chamber of Parliament on Friday, June 11, 2021. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin to symbolically begin the planting of the trees (Watch video <a href=\"https:\/\/fb.watch\/64wnBPcAaM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/fb.watch\/64wnBPcAaM\/<\/a>). Through our own distractive practices, not only have we degraded the natural environment God gave us, we have also virtually depleted our forest reserves,\u201d said Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that, as part of the initiative the Government seeks to work out a formula for the planting of economic trees such as Timber, Wawa, Nim, Rosewood and Shea trees which is a form of national investment into the future of the country.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy this policy initiative, we will be making investment for our future. In committing to this exercise, we are not just going to plant the trees and walk away.
