The Parliament of Ghana has adopted a Private Members Motion to set up a special bi-partisan adhoc Committee to investigate the procurement contracts between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum and one other for the supply of Sputnik-V COVID-19 Vaccines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The membership of the Committee and their terms of reference is yet to determined by the leadership of both sides and reported back to the House on Friday, July 9, 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Motion which was filed by some seven Members of Parliament from the Minority side of the House, have stressed the need for a Parliamentary probe into the agreement because of what they believe to pricing and policy inconsistencies concerning the procurement of the vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contrary to expectations, the Members of the Majority side of the House gave their support to the bi-partisan probe without any fight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Private Members Motion was in the name of the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak; Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; and Member of Parliament for Daffiama\/Bussie\/Issa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The others are: the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane; and Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving the Private Members Motion on behalf of the group, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said they were invoking the power of inquiry and investigation of Parliament according to Article 103 of the 1992 constitution. The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on his part pledged support for the motion and indicated that the exercise of the oversight responsibility of Parliament was at the heart of the motion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
