Unity Is Our Strength And Stewardship Is Our Responsibility – Minister for Religious Affairs
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has described the church as an indispensable partner in national development.
Speaking at the official launch of the Second Ecumenical Convention by the Christian Council of Ghana, he said the partnership is practical, rooted in daily realities, as well as moral guidance and values that faith provides.
“Together we stand at the intersection of faith and governance, work of compassion, stewardship and justice, peace, progress and transformation,” he said.
He said through that intersection, communities can be mobilised to protect the environment and improve sanitation, strengthen peace-building and interfaith harmony, promote ethical leadership and responsible citizenship, and protect the vulnerable, especially children.
“Ghana’s diversity is not a weakness but a divine gift… cultivating a culture in which integrity is not merely encouraged but expected… ensuring that no child is denied education, safety, dignity or love,” he said.
As the Convention was launched, Hon. Ayariga urged the Christian Council to intensify efforts in four areas: championing environmental awareness campaigns across congregations, mobilising youth for climate action and sustainable livelihoods, partnering with government, private sector, civil society and development partners in sanitation, afforestation, waste management and renewable energy, and promoting messages of unity, peace and ethical leadership.
He extended a call to all stakeholders, including private sector, civil society, faith-based organisations, traditional authorities and citizens of goodwill to rally behind the Christian Council.
“The Council cannot walk this path alone. Its vision requires collective strength… Let us therefore lend our resources, expertise, networks and influence to ensure that the Council’s programmes are not only sustained but also expanded to reach every corner of our nation,” he said.
“Remember, when the Council succeeds, Ghana succeeds. When the Council is supported, the moral fibre of our society is strengthened,” he added.
He commended the Council for its continued commitment and said he has seen video evidence that it has begun a comprehensive mindset transformation for nation-building crusade.
“Unity is our strength and stewardship is our responsibility. When we are united in Christ, we can transform society. When we care for creation, we honour the Creator,” he concluded.
