The former Youth Organizer and former National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, has delivered a strong message to members of the party’s tertiary wing, urging them to remain committed and resilient as the party works to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.
Addressing members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy during a visit to the Minority Caucus in Parliament, Mr. Awuku declared that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will have no safe seats in the next elections.
He stressed that the NPP is determined to contest and win seats across the country, including constituencies traditionally considered strongholds of their political opponents.
“Just as they were able to annex some of our seats from our strongholds, we are also going to do the same to them,” he stated.
Mr. Awuku, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, called on TESCON members to take ownership of the party’s rebuilding process while in opposition. He emphasized the need for loyalty and active participation, encouraging young party members to contribute meaningfully to the effort to recapture political power.
He further cautioned against defecting to the ruling party, warning that such moves would not necessarily guarantee opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who hosted the TESCON delegation, reaffirmed his commitment and that of the Minority Caucus to mentoring and supporting the next generation of leaders within the party.
He assured the students of Parliament’s readiness to work closely with them to strengthen the party’s structures and prepare for victory in 2028.
