The Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Education Committee and Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Hon. Joseph Kwame Kumah, popularly known as Jakala, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education in Ghana, following his participation in the launch of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).
The event, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra on June 18, 2026, brought together policymakers, education stakeholders, students, development partners and other distinguished guests to commemorate two decades of the Fund’s contribution to tertiary education financing in Ghana.
Addressing participants in his capacity as Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Education Committee, Hon. Kumah underscored the importance of accessible and sustainable student financing as a critical tool for educational development and national progress.
He commended the Students Loan Trust Fund for its significant role in supporting thousands of Ghanaian students to access higher education over the past twenty years, stressing that the scheme has become an essential pillar in Ghana’s educational landscape.
The Kintampo North legislator further called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the Fund for future generations.
He urged the beneficiary students to ensure they pay back their loans after their education in order to ensure that the tertiary education financing scheme remains sustainable for others to also come and benefit.
The ceremony was attended by several high-profile dignitaries, including Dr. Adjei, who served as the Special Guest Speaker. In his keynote address, Dr. Adjei highlighted the Fund’s contribution to human capital development and emphasized the need for prudent management, innovation and strategic reforms to ensure its long-term sustainability.
Hon. Kumah’s participation in the landmark event reflects his continued dedication to education and his active involvement in shaping policies aimed at expanding educational opportunities for Ghanaian students.
His contribution to discussions at the national event further projected Kintampo North onto the national stage, reinforcing the constituency’s growing influence in education and development discourse while showcasing its representative’s commitment to championing initiatives that improve access to quality education.
