Members of a committee leading the Network of Accredited Journalists in Parliament of Benin known as “Réseau des Journalistes Accrédités au Parlement” (REJAP) led by Mr. Max Gaspard ADJAMONSI have paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Benin National Assembly on Monday, April 24th, 2023.
According to the leader of the Journalist Network which is specialized in Parliamentary issues in Benin, the visit was to officially congratulate the Speaker, Honourable Louis Gbehounou Vlavonou on his re-election as the leader and to also congratulate the old and new members of the 9th Parliament.
In his brief, ADJAMONSI noted that the call on the speaker was to discuss the need for a firm collaboration between the parliamentary institution and the Network of Accredited Journalists in Parliament.
“People have had a lot of speculation about the relationship between the Accredited Journalists Network in Parliament and the National Assembly. A lot of people said that we were kicked out of the National Assembly but you see that we are well represented,” he observed.
According to ADJAMONSI, the issues pertaining to the press gallery were topics for discussion and this revealed that the said issue is also a major concern to the parliamentary authority who are working on how to resolve the situation.
“There are other ways for us to cover the National Assembly work. And I believe that with the Directorate of Information and Communications of the National Assembly, we will find the necessary clues to permanently settle this problem from where journalists will now stay to cover the work of the National Assembly”, concluded the leader of the network.
Before dismissing the delegation, the Speaker of the National Assembly made a promise to do his best in order to find adequate solutions to all the different concerns that had been submitted to his appreciation.
Very satisfied with the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, the members of the Network of Accredited Journalists in Parliament of Benin were of the firm belief that the coming months would be the most cordial between the National Assembly and their Network.
