Accra, August 26, 2026 — President John Dramani Mahama has announced further changes to his government, with the reassignment of three officials in a move that affects the Labour, Employment and Job Creation portfolio as well as ministerial responsibilities at the Presidency.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has been reassigned as Minister of State for Special Initiatives, while Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum will take over as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation.
The changes effectively reverse the portfolios previously held by the two officials, with Agyekum moving from the Special Initiatives portfolio to the Labour Ministry and Pelpuo moving to the Presidency.
The President has also reassigned Ernest Brogya Genfi, who served as Deputy Minister for Defence, to the Presidency as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
The latest changes form part of a continuing realignment of President Mahama’s administration following a broader ministerial reshuffle announced earlier this month.
The Presidency said the new reassignments take immediate effect.
The announcement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
The changes come shortly after President Mahama submitted nominations and reassignments involving other ministers to Parliament for consideration and approval, in accordance with the constitutional requirement governing ministerial appointments. Parliament has referred the nominations to its Appointments Committee for consideration and report.
The latest adjustments are expected to further shape the composition and responsibilities of the Mahama administration as the government seeks to streamline ministerial portfolios and strengthen delivery across key sectors.
