Togbui Fiti Does Not Deserve Such a Disrespect from the President of Ghana – Volta MPs Demand Apology

The Volta Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament in Ghana, are demanding a retraction and apology from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for his recent berating comment against the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, in the Volta Region.

The Traditional ruler, Tobgui Ajongaga Amenya Fiti V had the occasion to advocate for the completion of an abandoned educational E-block facility in his jurisdiction when the Minority Caucus on the Educational Committee of Parliament paid a courtesy call on him.

In his address to the Committee which was on a tour to inspect educational facilities in some areas including the Volta region, he gave an ultimatum to the Government to complete the educational project which has lasted over five years since the erstwhile NDC government left office in 2017.

Responding to the ultimatum given by the Paramount Chief, President Akufo-Addo, in a radio interview, was heard retorting that if the Chief was so concerned about the state of the educational facility within his paramountcy, he should as well find resources to complete it.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, October 28, 2021, the Volta Caucus led by the Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, took a strong exception to the conduct of the President against the Traditional ruler.

“Togbui Ajongaga Amenya Fiti V, Daho of the Aflao Traditional Area deserves praise for prioritizing education and speaking out against the culture of abandoning inherited projects. H e does not deserve such disrespect from the President of the Republic of Ghana.

“The President’s conduct which we do not see him exhibit against other chiefs from other parts of the country is a total afront to the entire Volta region and the Aflao Traditional Area in particular. We demand a retraction and apology from His Excellency the President,” he said.

The Minority group were of the view that, a peaceful coexistence of all Ghanaians, regardless of their ethnicity or religion is seriously undermined by the conduct of the President.

“A united Ghana with a common destiny is undermined by such reckless and discriminatory conduct of the President,” she added.

The Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, seized the occasion to serve notice that she will be launching “a whole funding account for a donation to finish the E-Block as instructed by the President’s infamous retort and I entreat all Aflaovio and all well meaning Ghanaians to donate generously.”
