Accra, Ghana – July 28, 2025
Former Minister for Defence and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, has appealed to the government to grant the late Ghanaian music icon, Daddy Lumba, a befitting state burial in recognition of his immense contributions to the nation’s cultural heritage.
Mr. Nitiwul made the call on the floor of Parliament while contributing to a joint statement eulogizing the legendary musician. The tribute was moved by the Members of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo and Manhyia North, Hon. Adelaide Ntim and Hon. Kwasi Konadu, respectively.
According to Mr. Nitiwul, the late Daddy Lumba, known in private life as Charles Kwadwo Fosu, did not only lift Ghana’s name on the global stage through his music but also played a critical role in mentoring and raising a generation of musicians in the country. “Considering his impact both locally and internationally, it is only right that Ghana honours him with a state burial,” he stated.
Adding her voice to the call, Deputy Majority Whip and MP for Ada, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the music legend, describing it as a monumental loss to the nation. “Daddy Lumba’s name and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of Ghanaians and lovers of music worldwide,” she noted.
The tributes reflect the widespread admiration for the late artiste, who was considered one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s music industry, with a career spanning over four decades and a catalog of timeless highlife hits.
Parliament’s recognition of Daddy Lumba’s legacy signals a growing call for the state to formally honour the contributions of Ghanaian creative icons.
